The 2013 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Europe Main Event started with 375 players and now it is down to just 24. Three tables of players remain in the tournament heading into Wednesday’s Day 4 and two – Adrian Mateos Diaz and Daniel Steinberg – stand above the crowd. Neck and neck at the top of the leader board as the only two players with over one million chips, they hold a 200,000 chip lead on their next closest competitor.

Both leaders hit big hands late to take them over the million chip plateau. Diaz did so by eliminating Scott Clements the hard way. Clements was all-in with A-J against Diaz’s A-8, but Diaz hit an 8 on the flop and another on the turn to send Clements packing earlier than he probably hoped.

Clements was put in the position of having to go all-in by Steinberg. Steinberg raised to 13,000 pre-flop and was called by just Clements. The flop was dealt 3-8-2♣ and Steinberg threw out an 18,000 chip bet, which Clements called again. Steinberg checked the K♣ on the turn and then called Clements bet of 29,000. On the river, things got serious, as Clements bet 105,000 in response to the 6♠ making an appearance. Steinberg pondered his move, but finally decided to call with just 2♠-4♠, good for only bottom pair. Clements flipped over Q-9, a total bluff, as he looked at a stack of just 115,000 chips in front of his seat. Steinberg was up to 910,000 at that point.

Steinberg made it over a million when he crippled Marc-Andre Ladouceur after turning a straight with hole cards of 8-5. Diaz knocked out Ladouceur on the very next hand.

The original schedule indicated that Day 3 was to play down to only 16 people, but things change, so Day 4 will start with 24, an extra table. The tournament will almost certainly stick to the schedule today, as the goal is to determine the final eight players by the end of the night. Tomorrow will be an off day before a champion is crowned Friday.
