The Annie Duke Poker Tutor, a free application for the iPhone, debuted on April 15th to rave reviews. One week later, the program has generated 2,300 downloads and, at the time of writing, was rated 4.5 stars on iTunes.

Duke’s app features an easy-to-use odds calculator that will soon be expanded to include up to nine hands and also compute figures for Omaha. Duke, a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet holder and reigning National Heads-Up Poker Championship winner, told Poker News Daily that users are opening the app every day, getting access to a total of 51 tips from the mind of one of the game’s best. Soon, that number will grow to 365, one tip for every day of the week.

On her in-depth advice given through the Annie Duke Poker Tutor, Duke told us, “Tip #51 is about how A-X suited is very valuable in loose games. I’m in the process of talking about hand adjustments for super loose games. The next section is all about what you should do if people raise in front of you.” Duke was the winner of the 2004 WSOP Tournament of Champions, where she captured a $2 million grand prize. As a result, she earned an automatic bid to the 2010 installment of the Tournament of Champions, which has taken on an all-star game format.

Other features of the Annie Duke Poker Tutor include an extensive poker glossary. Duke explained the thought process that has gone into its development: “I added 40 terms the other day. Every time I write a tip, I remember that I have to add words to the glossary.” Terms include donkey, fishcake, live one, air, and blank.

The top female pro added, “The glossary has so many entries and I’ve worked hard on it. I went on Twitter and asked for terms. People seem to really enjoy suggesting terms and seeing them in the glossary in real time.” In the future, the glossary will include a way for users to jump to all terms beginning with a particular letter.

Now, the app will grow to include interactive quizzes, one of the standout features of poker software programs like SNG Wizard. In order to build her quizzes, Duke is soliciting app users to hit the “Feedback” button and send in hands they thought were interesting.

Duke explained how she plans to pick which hands make the final cut: “The ones I think are most useful for teaching I’ll use to make the quiz.” Players can cut and paste hand histories from an e-mail into the app or even use free-form sentences to describe the action. The quiz feature will include an image of the table to replay the hand in question.

On April 29th, the first freeroll for users of the Annie Duke Poker Tutor will play out on the virtual felts of UB.com, with the password being distributed through the app. However, Duke will not be present for the freeroll as scheduled. Instead, she’ll be recording a feature for ABC’s “Good Morning America.” In it, Duke will be giving a private lesson to former Bill Clinton advisor George Stephanopoulos. In her stead, UB.com pros Mark “P0ker H0” Kroon and “Hollywood” Dave Stann will be playing, each with a $50 bounty on their heads. In addition, the freebie has a $250 prize pool.

As of April 22nd, a total of 40 players had already registered for the freeroll. Check out the Annie Duke Poker Tutor, a free app for the Apple iPhone, today.
