Hailing from Calabasas, California, David Oppenheim began playing poker while he was at college. After becoming obsessed with the game, he turned it into a career and has been playing professionally for the last 15 years. Over that span, Oppenheim has developed into one of the most well known cash game players in the world and can often be found in the highest stakes games both live and online.

Like most ring games players, Oppenheim eventually migrated over to the highest buy-in tournaments where he has had moderate success. In 2003, he made the final table of the World Poker Tour $5000 Borgata Poker Open, where he took third for $117.5K. 2007 saw him finish in third place in the World Series of Poker $5000 World Championship Seven Card Stud event for $93K. Then, at the 2008 WSOP, Oppenheim made two more final tables; he finished ninth in the $10K World Championship Mixed Event for $45K and seventh in $10K World Championship Stud for $59K. More recently, he made the final table of the WSOP $50K Player’s Championship in 2010, where he settled for third place and $603K.

In an interview with Card Player, David had the following piece of advice for aspiring cash game players: “To be a really good cash-game player, you need lots of experience. The best way to put it is that inexperienced players are not very seasoned. Emotionally, they get upset when things go wrong and they do not play the same way they were playing when they first arrived. They need to learn to play their best at all times, even when the cards are going against them.”

David Oppenheim is a Full Tilt Poker pro and can be found online playing as ‘David Oppenheim’.

Away from the tables, Oppenheim enjoys golfing, reading, traveling, and spending time with his wife and three children.
