As is typically the case in a multiple starting flight tournament, Day 1B of the Gioco Digitale World Poker Tour (WPT) Venice Carnival Main Event saw a larger field than did Day 1A. It is still one of the smallest major tournaments in the world, though, as the 92 players who signed up yesterday brought the two-day total to just 144 registrants (it appears that there may have been one late entrant today).

The Czech Republic’s David Taborsky took the overall lead in the tournament by ending Day 1B with 100,300 chips, the only player to finish either starting flight over the 100,000 mark. He has never cashed in an official WPT event, though he did finish third in the in the WPT National Vienna Poker Festival in 2012. Taborsky’s last three cashes have all been good ones. None have been less than $30,000 and his latest was a win in a preliminary event at European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona in September 2013.

With the field of 144 players, a total prizepool of €377,136 was generated, paying down to 18 places and €105,000 to the winner. Here is a breakdown of the entire prize structure (prize information courtesy wpt.com):

1st – €105,000 ($15,400 WPT Championship seat included)
2nd – €66,000
3rd – €42,000
4th – €31,000
5th – €24,000
6th – €19,400
7th – €15,700
8th – €12,400
9th – €9,436
10th – 12th – €6,800
13th – 15th – €5,600
16th – 18th – €5,000

There are 105 players remaining in the event and all of them are now together in a single field as Day 2 gets underway today. Odds are that the tournament won’t get down to the money today, but there is still Day 3 tomorrow before the final table on Friday.
