The top story of the past few days from poker players on Twitter was the breakthrough victory by Liv Boeree at the European Poker Tour (EPT) stop in San Remo, Italy. After she won the championship, Boeree seemed stunned as she Tweeted to her followers, “Um. I just won an EPT.” This opened the floodgates of congratulations from her friends and fellow players from around the world.

“Love it!,” Annie Duke Tweeted following the win, adding a re-Tweet: “First @RealAnnieDuke, then Vanessa Selbst, now @Liv_Boeree. Can boys even play this game?” Fellow UB sponsored player Scott Ian, who is on a concert tour, took time to Tweet, “Congrats to @liv_boeree!!! She just took down the EPT in San Remo for €1,250,000!!! SO F*****G METAL!” Another top player, Norwegian pro Andreas Hoivold, could only Tweet, “Sick, sick, sick! Congrats a lot!,” to welcome Boeree to the exclusive EPT champions club.

Even players who were in action at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Championship at the Bellagio in Las Vegas took the time to Tweet about Boeree’s EPT title. 2009 CardPlayer Player of the Year Eric “basebaldy” Baldwin Tweeted, “Wow. Congrats to @liv_boeree for winning EPT San Remo! Been a great 2010 for Team @ultimate_bet. Time for me and Phil to handle WPT champ.” Phil Hellmuth added in his congratulations: “Congrats to @liv_boeree on her impressive win in San Remo!! I am proud of you girl! 1.2 million Euros: Next bottle of Dom on you!” Both Baldwin and Hellmuth are among the final 18 players in the WPT Championship.

After Adam “Roothlus” Levy Tweeted, “So surreal. Congrats to @Liv_Boeree for winning EPT San Remo for $1.7 milly Euros. Also congrats to @AlliePrescott for getting a sugar mama,” Boeree’s paramour Allie Prescott responded with his congratulations: “Yes! It’s over. EPT San Remo Champion. You deserved this so much baby. I’m so proud of you.” Prescott also revealed that his friends have excelled in recent days: “In the past week, one of my best friends took 2nd for 500k at Mohegan and now my girlfriend is about to scoop up 1.7M at San Remo… now I’m not trying to take all the credit here, but I will consider being your friend too for a small fee!”

For those who weren’t in action on the tables, late night television became a subject of discussion on the Twitterscape. Daniel Negreanu started off the discussion by Tweeting, “America. Do you really think George Lopez is funny? I’m embarrassed for him every time he takes the stage. Boggles my mind he makes a living.” After some banter about different comedians, “Kid Poker” revealed who one of his favorite late night hosts is by Tweeting, “Wanda Sykes? She actually has JOKES. Original jokes that make you actually laugh. Lopez seems like a nice guy, but man, he’s just not funny.” This prompted J.C. Alvarado to Tweet back, “Woah, man. C’mon! If you ever want to listen to good standup lmk, I’ll recommend a few.”

There were three memorable tweets from the week that provided the comic relief that some were looking for. Mark Seif decided to head to the basketball court on Tuesday, Tweeting afterward, “Just played basketball for only 45 mins this morning at the local park. Good thing a nurse was there bc this fat boy coulda died.” The always entertaining Erik Seidel piped up with the gem: “A 2 year old alone on the computer, that’s how the Icelanders ended up naming their volcano Eylafjallajoekull.” Finally, Alex Outhred declared, “In honor of Earth Day, I’m gonna have a burger. Less cows = less atmospheric destruction caused by cow flatulence.”
