A Grandville, Michigan woman was sentenced earlier this month for an April incident in which she neglected her kids in order to play poker.

Diem Thi Tran was participating in a charity poker tournament on April 23 when a police officer found her three children asleep in her car in the parking lot at 1:17am. Multiple witnesses said that the children had been alone in the vehicle for around three hours while their mother was inside Woody’s Press Box, a sports bar in the city of Wyoming.

While the children – ages 5, 10, and 15 – are back home with their mother, their father, who also lives with them, is now their custodian.

Tran was fined $450 and ordered to attend parenting classes after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor child neglect charge. Should she meet the conditions of the punishment within six months, the charges will show up as dismissed on her criminal record.
