WSOP.com Making a Move on Ultimate Poker

In a sign that WSOP.com is really starting to gun for Ultimate Poker in the state of Nevada, the intrastate online poker room announced Friday that through the end of the year, it will match a player’s VIP status on another site with a comparable status on WSOP.com. Considering Ultimate Poker is WSOP.com’s only competitor in Nevada, this promotion is obviously a direct effort to grab players from UP.

A WSOP.com representative posted about the limited time offer on the site’s sponsored support section the Two Plus Two poker forum, writing, “Now through the end of December, all WSOP.com members who achieve a certain status level with another online poker site can request to be granted comparable status within WSOP.com.”

There is no direct correlation between WSOP’s Action Club status levels and UP’s Color Up tiers that has been published; the WSOP rep said that players need to e-mail the site at actionclub@wsop.com with their full name, phone number, WSOP.com username, and a screenshot from the competing site that shows the VIP status. The phrase “Comparable Tier Match Request” should be in the subject line.

As another way to bring more players into the fold, WSOP.com has increased its Action Player Points (APPs) multipliers for each status level, allowing players to earn rewards faster. Here is a look at the multiplier changes.

Silver Tier: 1x to 4x
Gold Tier: 2x to 5x
Platinum Tier: 3.5x to 6x
Diamond Tier: 5x to 7.5x
Elite Tier: 7x to 10x
Seven Stars Tier: 10x to 15x

WSOP players earn 2 APPs for every $1 in tournament fees paid. In cash games, 2 APPs are accumulated for the table for every $1 raked, with players receiving portions of that total based on contributed rake.

WSOP.com is running one more promotion through the end of November as a way to attract high volume players. During “Grinder Appreciation Month,” those who play the most frequently will be rewarded with extra rakeback on top of whatever APPs they would normally earn. Those who are credited with at least 100 raked hands in each of 15 days during the month will get an extra 10 percent rakeback. Players who play in 200 raked hands for 20 days get an extra 20 percent rakeback, and those who play in 500 raked hands each and every day of November will earn an additional 30 percent rakeback.

WSOP.com launched on September 19th, just the second legal, regulated online poker room in the state of Nevada. It was a “soft launch,” as it did not immediately start an advertising blitz. It has begun to advertise, though, and with these new promotions, it looks like “soft” is officially a thing of the past. It has yet to pass Ultimate Poker’s cash game traffic numbers, but it will soon. According to PokerScout.com, Ultimate Poker has a seven day average of 132 cash game players, while WSOP.com is just six players behind at 126.
