Not all journalist like to point out the positive things about a person, some like Van Smith feel the need to dig-up the past of really good people to some how make them look like monsters. That was the case with November niner Darvin Moon. Darvin is known for been a hard working man and also a very successful poker player at the 2009 WSOP main event.

Darvin’s story is quite an interesting one, he won his ticket to the WSOP main event after winning a $130 buy-in tournament at a Virginia casino.  Moon had an incredible run in the main event in the ‘09 WSOP, in fact his performance was so remarkable that he entered the final table with the chip lead. The tournament was stopped when there were nine players remaining and the world waited three months for play to resume.

While most of the players that earned their spot at the WSOP main event final table trained and looked sponsorship deals, Darvin Moon avoided the spotlight and went back to his normal life, the life that had made him happy for so many years.  Moon turned down many sponsorship offers from poker rooms like PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker – offers would have made him a lot of money – because he enjoys his free will.

After the tournament ended Darvin Moon went back to his hometown and continued with his normal life, and as any person would do he bought a few new things that he wanted, like a new car and a new trailer home.  He also heled a local church – a church he had no affiliation with – by buying them a parking lot.

Darvin showed many poker players a lesson in humility that won’t be forgotten, and he will go down as one of the most humble players that ever played at the WSOP.
