According to an Associated Press report, the state of New Jersey will extend its current self-exclusion list for brick-and-mortar casinos to the internet realm.

People who want to keep themselves from gambling in one of Atlantic City’s dozen casinos have been permitted to self-exclude, or place themselves on a list that will prevent them from entering one of the establishments. Exclusion terms can be one year, five years, or lifetime. Now, anyone on the list will also be banned from online gaming when sites go live in the Garden State on November 26th. There will be an online-only list, as well, for those who still want to play in the casinos but don’t want the temptation of the home game.

“Expanding the division’s self-exclusion program to include Internet gaming and making the application process available to the public prior to Internet gaming’s go-live date of November 26, 2013, represents a commitment I made following the signing of the Internet gaming bill,” David Rebuck, director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) told the AP. “The division is committed to promoting responsible gaming not only in Atlantic City’s casinos, but also on the Internet.”

Should someone on the brick-and-mortar self-exclusion list still enter a casino and play, their winnings will be subject to forfeit.

People can sign up for the land-based self-exclusion list at the DGE’s Trenton and Atlantic City locations, the New Jersey Racing Commission’s offices in Trenton, Freehold, Oceanport, and East Rutherford, or online (http://www.nj.gov/oag/ge/selfexclusion.html).

There is one more option for brick-and-mortar players to keep themselves safe while still allowing themselves to gamble. New Jersey does permit people to request a suspension of credit privileges, rather completely self-excluding themselves from all gambling. By doing this, customers are still free to gamble at a casino as they would please, as long as they have the money to do so. Anyone on this list will not be able to gamble on credit, which would give them the opportunity to potentially rack up more gambling debt than their finances could handle.

One question people might ask when it comes to the Atlantic City casino self-exclusion list is how can someone be stopped from entering a casino just because they are on a list? After all, nobody is checking names and ID’s at the door. Well, it is definitely possible to walk into a casino and play while on the self-exclusion list, but each casino will have a photo and description of anyone on the list, and we know how good casino security tends to be, so tread lightly. And as was said before, self-excluded players who win money will have to hand it over if they are caught.
