Last week, September 19th to be exact, was the one-year anniversary of WSOP.com’s entry into the Nevada online poker market. To celebrate, the site is running a couple of promotions for its players.

The biggie is the WSOP.com Anniversary Tournament Series. The nine-tournament series started last week on the anniversary date, but there is still time to get in on the action. There are still six more tournaments, starting with a $30 Pot-Limit Omaha Re-buy and Add-on event at 6:00pm tonight. There is a $3,000 guaranteed prize pool for that one with another $27,000 guaranteed across the next five tournaments. The Anniversary Tournament Series is pretty straight-forward; it is just tourneys, no leaderboards, bubble boy freerolls, or anything like that.

Also through September 27th, WSOP.com is running the Double Me Up promotion in which real money players can earn double APP’s in any cash game, Sit-and-Go, or multi-table tournament. Additionally, 19 randomly chosen players will be given 919 points each day. To be eligible for the point giveaway, players must have earned at least one APP before the drawing. The rules do not say that it must be one point per day, so we assume it is simply one point ever, likely to prevent people from creating an account just to earn free APP’s without actually playing. One thing to remember is that the Double Me Up promo is an “opt-in” promotion, one where players must click on a link in the software (or e-mail, if one was sent) to activate it. Without opting-in, players will not receive double APP’s and will not qualify for the daily points drawing.

“It has been a year full of excitement, with plenty of lessons learned,” WSOP.com Head of Online Poker Bill Rini said in a press release on the site’s anniversary date, “Most importantly for the game’s long-term health, the technology and the regulations have worked as intended. We have established a solid foundation for this recently-regulated digital form of entertainment in the United States, and remain fully-committed and bullish on the long-term prospects of the business.”

WSOP.com also announced on Friday that 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Greg Merson is now officially the online poker room’s first Brand Ambassador. He currently resides in New Jersey and plays on the WSOP.com site that is based in Atlantic City.

“Greg is a terrific ambassador for the game of poker. He loves the game, is passionate and opinionated about its future, and he will help us spread the word about our offerings and ensure the poker playing community has a respected, experienced voice to help shape WSOP.com moving forward,” said Rini.

According to PokerFuse.com, Merson isn’t going to be a typical online poker “pitchman,” someone who just goes around to tourneys wearing WSOP patches all over his body. They signed him because he is truly an online poker player who knows a lot about the game. “It is more like an incentive-based online poker playing program,” Caesars Interactive Entertainment Vice President of Corporate Communications Seth Palansky told PokerFuse. “This is meant as an incentive-based deal for players who log a lot of hours playing online poker and can help recruit others to do the same, while providing valuable feedback for our product and offerings.”

“This is a WSOP.com deal. We aren’t buying Greg into WSOP land-based events or forcing him to participate or stay away from any events either.”
