Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu had better get some rest over these next six weeks because he has a busy summer ahead. Over the weekend, the Poker Hall of Famer posted his schedule for the 2023 World Series of Poker and it is a doozy, leaving him with essentially no rest at all.

Negreanu is kicking things off right away, planning to play in Event #2: $25,000 High Roller Six Handed No-Limit Hold’em on May 30, the first day of the WSOP. He isn’t play in Event #1 because that is the traditional Casino Employees event.

There are 115 combined live and online events at this year’s World Series and Negreanu’s schedule has him playing in 88 of them. Now, he will not actually play in all 88, as many overlap, so it just depends on how he is doing in any given tournament on any given day. When there are two events starting on the same day, Negreanu said he will start with the earlier one (as long as he isn’t in Day 2 or beyond in another tournament at the time, we would assume).

His potential buy-in total, based on the 88 listed events, is close to $1 million. Obviously he will come in below that, since it is impossible to play in every event he listed. At the same time, however, most of the events allow for re-entries and Negreanu is not shy about firing multiple bullets, so it would come as no surprise if his end total does eclipse $1 million.

Daniel Negreanu is known for chasing the World Series of Poker Player of the Year title and enjoys bracelet bets, so it is not shocking to see such a jam-packed schedule. He has also always been very open about his poker play, especially when it comes to the WSOP, so it is cool to see it laid out in one long, intimidating list.

And as unrealistic as it might be, it is very possible that Daniel Negreanu still wants to try to catch Phil Hellmuth as the top bracelet winner of all time. Hellmuth has 16 WSOP bracelets to his name, far and away the most of all time, six clear of the trio of Johnny Chan, Doyle Brunson, and Phil Ivey. Negreanu is in a pack of players with six bracelets each. With the staggering number of bracelet events every year now and Negreanu being ten years Hellmuth’s junior, you never know, however unlikely it might be.

One spot where he could catch Hellmuth is in total World Series of Poker cashes. Hellmuth is the all-time leader with 163, according to TheHendonMob.com, but Negreanu isn’t too far behind in third place with 152. Roland Israelashvili is in second with 157.
