David Ulliott, known in poker circles as the Devilfish, is famous for his outgoing personality, criminal past, sharp dressing style and trademark knuckleduster rings that he made himself. The boisterous Devilfish is one of the UK’s highest earning poker players, and now he is willing to share some of his secrets with four losing poker players.

The five-part series is called “How to Become a Poker Millionaire” and it will be aired on ITV Wales and also available to Sky viewers. The show will follow Devilfish as he meets, tests and trains four losing players hoping to turn at least one of them into a poker shark. The show’s trailer, available for viewing on http://www.redandblackfilms.com/flash/main.htm , shows Devilfish meeting the four contestants (three men and one woman) and introducing them to the initial tests: “Let’s see if it’s the thickest (dumbest) person gets knocked out first. Will it be the one with the worst memory? Will it be the one with the worst maths ability? Let’s find out what skills we really need to win this!” Players were given an IQ test, a math skills test and a psychological assessment; as well as questioned on their behavior under pressure, state of mind and their sex life. Several forum goers who have already seen the first episode also commented on the “luck test,” which involved the contestants playing Russian roulette with eggs. You must see the trailer to believe it.

Besides the testing and instruction, the show features many interviews with the Devilfish’s superstar friends, including Layne Flack, the ubiquitous Phil Hellmuth, Brian Townsend, Chris Ferguson, Hevad Khan, Phil Ivey, Phil Laak, Allen Cunningham and Howard Lederer.

At the beginning of the show, Ulliott gives players a starting bankroll “out of his own pocket” to play online at the lowest limits. Once a week the two players with the lowest bankrolls will face each other heads-up until one is eliminated. The winner will take all bankrolls plus three months personal tuition from Ulliott.

Ulliott said of the 30-minute episodes that make this series:

Poker players won’t have seen anything like this before. It was a real boot camp for the participants and I took no prisoners. There’s laughter and tears, good poker and bad poker, and viewers will get to learn many of the tricks of the high-stakes poker trade which took me years and a lot of money to learn.

John Giwa-Amu and Caradog James of Red & Black Films are the BAFTA winning producers of this series, which can be seen on ITV Wales and on Sky following the instructions available on www.devilfishpokerschool.com.
