Brooklyn born Dwyte Pilgrim may not have flashy titles or bracelets yet, but make no mistake about it, he’s a professional poker player. A master of finishing off mid-stakes buy-in tournaments, Pilgrim has carved out a nice living for himself over the past few years.

In 2009, Pilgrim won a $500 World Series of Poker Circuit event for $84K in Atlantic City. He followed it up a few weeks later by winning another Circuit event, this time for $125K in San Diego. Pilgrim started 2010 off with a bang by winning the $500 Southern Poker Championship for $52K. A month later, he won the $1500 Mega Stack Challenge for $50K and then took second in a $1000 Borgata Spring Poker Open event for $26K. More recently, he ran deep in a $1500 World Series of Poker No Limit event, eventually finishing in 20th place for $15K.

A talented player who quite clearly practices great game selection and bankroll management, Pilgrim is a model to all up-and-coming players who feel like they have yet to break through. Dwyte is proof that poker players don’t need to win a WSOP bracelet or World Poker Tour title to earn a successful living.

In an interview with Card Player, Pilgrim provided some insight as to what he’s learned from traveling the live poker circuit:

“I’ve learned that you have to play consistently at all times. I’ve played in a lot of tournaments, and I’ve realized that you can chip up at anytime during a tournament. It can happen at the beginning, the middle, or the end. If you play consistently, then you ensure that you will be around for that time when you get hot. And then you will be able to capitalize on other people’s mistakes and take that hot streak all the way. You’ve got to put yourself in a position to be successful.”
