Canadian billionaire Guy Laliberte was blasted off into space to become the first clown and high stakes poker player to leave earth literally. He will be going to the international space station, his trip will last 12 days before returning to earth.
Guy Laliberte was brought up on a middle-class family in Canada; he left his home at the age of 18 to hitchhike in Europe. He spent his first night in London on a bench park with less than $1000 in his pocket. Guy performed as a sidewalk showman to earn enough money to get him through the day. Laliberte returned to Canada were he started to organize street festivals until he got his first contract with the city of Quebec to organize a street show, after that he continued to organize shows and that’s how the Cirque du Soleil started.
Laliberte enjoys playing poker and has participated in several live poker tournaments. His best performance was taking 4th place in the World Poker Tour season five, and he won $696K for his effort. He has also appeared in the popular TV poker shows High Stakes Poker and Poker After Dark.
Poker players are almost certain that Guy has lost more than $17 million across several accounts that belong to him at Full Tilt Poker, but Laliberte loves poker and he will most likely continue to play for the rest of his life.
