Jason Mercier is a PokerStars Team Pro and one of the best tournament poker players in the world. He is a former Player of the Year winner and whether the games are played online or live, he’s usually got a deep run in him.
Mercier joined us from the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, which are believed to have the best poker games in the world during the month of February. What is Mercier’s take? He said, “Yeah for sure. LA is where all the action is during February. It’s Vegas during the summer and it’s LA during the spring.”
As the game has evolved over the last few years, we’ve seen some established pros fail to make their mark in the games anymore. For a player like Mercier, he continues to be one of the top pros in the upper echelon. What is his secret to success for staying at a high level? Mercier explains, “It’s all luck (joking) … I’m a pretty lucky guy but really I am able to play any style really and just adapt to the opponents I am playing against.”
Even though he’s already had a lot of success online and live, there are always tournaments that Mercier wants to add to his win column. Obviously, the World Series of Poker Main Event would be the top one, but what other event does Mercier really want to win? He responded, “I really just trying to win money and win tournaments. I’d really like to win a WPT, that’s a goal of mine. Or, even make a final table there which I have never done. I want to keep getting better at all the games, come the World Series, so that I can play pretty much every event.”
Mericer is a member of Team PokerStars pro and won a WSOP bracelet in 2009 in a Pot Limit Omaha event.
