Poker News

On Monday, officials from Caesars Entertainment released the schedule for the 2011 World Series of Poker (WSOP). The 2011 WSOP schedule features 58 bracelet events including a brand new $25,000 Heads-Up No Limit Hold’em Championship. The festivities will once again take place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The $50,000 Player’s Championship returns this year, but will instead find a home at the end of the WSOP. The tournament will be the 55th played and begins on July 2nd. Full Tilt Poker pro Michael Mizrachi took down the tournament last year and the contest features a spread of Limit Hold’em, Omaha High-Low Split Eight or Better, Seven Card Razz , Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud High-Low Split Eight or Better, No Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha, and 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball.

A press release sent out on Monday afternoon explains the concept behind the all-new $25,000 Heads-Up No Limit Hold’em Championship: “Are you the best one-on-one player in the world? The winner of this event will be able to claim that title. Up to 256 players will compete in this first-time event, which will be the first open bracelet awarded at the 2011 WSOP. This is Event #2 on the schedule and begins on Tuesday, May 31st at 5:00pm in the famed Amazon Room.” The kickoff event is once again the $500 Casino Employees No Limit Hold’em tournament.

Hard stop times will make their debut in 2011. For tournaments other than the Main Event that start at Noon local time, play will last a maximum of 10 levels each day. For events that begin at 5:00pm, a maximum of eight levels will be held. Noon events will restart at 2:30pm the next day, while 5:00pm events will restart at 3:00pm. This change is being billed as addressing “player comfort.”

The $10,000 Main Event is back and once again features four starting days. The cards will hit the air at Noon on each Day 1 and the tournament boasts two-hour blind levels. Look for the Main Event beginning on July 7th and playing through July 19th, when it will once again be paused until November. Pre-registration for the Main Event and other tournaments will open up on February 7th.
