Poker News

The World Series of Poker is in full swing at the Rio in Las Vegas, but that doesn’t mean people can’t get excited for even more tournaments to come. This week, the WSOP released the official schedule for the 2014-2015 WSOP Circuit, setting it to begin at the end of July at the Palm Beach Kennel Club in Florida and concluding with the WSOP National Championship in May.

The number of stops on the Circuit have decreased from 22 to 21, with two venues – the Palm Beach Kennel Club and Harrah’s Cherokee in North Carolina – serving as hosts two times. There are three new locations on the schedule this coming season: Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Harrah’s Ak-Chin near Phoenix, and the soon-to-open Harrah’s Baltimore. Sixteen venues return from last season.

Based on what was put out in a WSOP press release, nothing in the 2014-2015 WSOP Circuit seems revolutionary, but that isn’t a bad thing. The tour went well this past season, might as well stick with what works. It will be “12 Rings in 12 Days” again at most venues, with 12 official ring events at each tour stop. Buy-ins will be standardized; Main Events will be $1,675 and the other ring events will likely run $365, if they stay the same as 2013-2014.

Throughout the course of the 2014-2015 season, players will have the chance to qualify for the WSOP National Championship, which is awards an actual WSOP bracelet to its winner. 42 players will qualify automatically by either winning one of the 21 Main Events or being the leading points earner, called the Casino Champion, at one of the 21 tour stops. Another 58 players will qualify by being the highest points earners during the entire 2014-2015 WSOP Circuit season. Should anyone earn more than one automatic qualification (for instance, by winning the Main Event and by being the Casino Champion at a single Circuit stop), an additional player will qualify by season points.
