The 2015 Aussie Millions Poker Championship schedule has been unveiled by the Crown Melbourne casino, giving poker players around the world a chance to start figuring out their schedules for the upcoming year. The most popular event outside of North America and Europe, the Aussie Millions will feature 21 events spanning almost three weeks, beginning Wednesday, January 14th.

In a press release, Crown Melbourne’s Director of Poker Jim Preston said, “Crown Melbourne’s Aussie Millions Poker Championship has effectively become one of the top poker majors and a favorite amongst some of the most renowned players in the world, and the stage has never been brighter.”

Festival organizers estimate about 4,000 players will travel to Melbourne for the Aussie Millions and that the total combined prize pools across all events will be around AUD$30 million. The $10,000 + $600 Main Event will be a week-long affair, starting on Sunday, January 25th with the first of three starting flights. It will conclude with Day 5 on Sunday, February 1st.

The Aussie Millions began in 1998 as primarily a local tournament with just a $1,000 buy-in (I say “just,” like that is pocket change or something). It wasn’t until 2003, when the buy-in was raised to $10,000, that it really started becoming a major international draw. It also made a name for itself as one of the first poker festivals to feature an ultra-high stakes event when it introduced the High Roller $100,000 Challenge in 2006. That event’s winners read like a “who’s who” of poker: John Juanda, Erick Lindgren, Howard Lederer, David Steicke, Dan Shak, Sam Trickett, Dan Smith, Andrew Robl, and Yevgeniy Timoshenko. In 2011, the stakes were raised with the introduction of the Super High Roller $250,000 Challenge. Erick Seidel won it in its first year, followed by Phil Ivey, Sam Trickett, and Phil Ivey again.

Canada’s Ami Barer won the Aussie Millions Main Event this year.
