GGPoker is coming for PokerStars

GGPoker has made a lot of moves in the last couple years to establish itself as one of the premier online poker networks and this latest is certainly one of them. Just days after top dog PokerStars released its schedule for the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP), GGPoker has unveiled a bigger, more lucrative schedule for the GG Spring Festival. Welcome to one-upsmanship.

GGPoker is not hiding the fact that it is gunning directly for PokerStars. The GG Spring Festival will run concurrently with SCOOP, April 4 through April 25 (SCOOP finishes up three days later). So while people can always multi-table, GGPoker is inviting those who want to focus on one tournament at a time to choose.

And like PokerStars’ SCOOP, GGPoker’s GG Spring Festival has three buy-in tiers for each event. The 110 GG Spring Festival Events (compared to 102 for SCOOP) will come with $150 million in guaranteed prize pools. That demolishes SCOOP, which has a paltry (read: sarcasm) $100 million in guarantees.

More than a third of the GG Spring Festival events – 39 – have a guarantee of at least $1 million. Oh, and guess what? GGPoker has tabbed April 25 as its big “Main Event” day, just like PokerStars. Witness:

$1,500 No-Limit Hold’em GGSF Main Event – $10 million guarantee
$10,300 No-Limit Hold’em GGSF Main Event – $10 million guarantee
$1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha GGSF Main Event – $2 million guarantee
$5,250 Bounty Hunters Main Event – $2 million guarantee
$525 Bounty Hunters Main Event – $1.25 million guarantee
$52.50 Bounty Hunters Main Event – $200,000 guarantee
$1,050 High Rollers Main Event – $1 million guarantee
$250 Sunday Main Event – $500,000 guarantee

And here are the SCOOP Main Events on the same day:

$10,300 No-Limit Hold’em (8-Max) Main Event High – $5 million guarantee
$1,050 No-Limit Hold’em (8-Max) Main Event Medium – $5 million guarantee
$109 No-Limit Hold’em (8-Max) Main Event Low – $3 million guarantee
$10,300 Pot-Limit Omaha (6-Max) Main Event High – $1.25 million guarantee
$1,050 Pot-Limit Omaha (6-Max) Main Event Medium – $750,000 guarantee
$109 Pot-Limit Omaha (6-Max) Main Event Low – $350,000 guarantee

So take your pick. As mentioned, the nice thing about online poker is that you can play on more than one site at once, so if you have the bankroll and ability to multi-table, you have a ton of options in April.

GGPoker is rising quickly

GGPoker has only recently become a recognizable name in online poker. Originally focusing on the Asian poker market, GGPoker and the GGNetwork have aggressively targeted the rest of the world over the last couple years. In late 2019, GGPoker made waves when it signed Poker Hall of Famer Daniel Negreanu as an ambassador. In 2020, GGPoker was the site for the online version of the World Series of Poker, both the Series during the summer and the new Main Event, cementing itself as a poker room to take seriously.
