Monday was Day 1B of the European Poker Tour (EPT) Deauville Main Event and, as expected, the registration numbers topped those of Day 1A. 475 players turned out for the second starting flight, more than one and half times the number that paid the €5,000 + €300 entry on Sunday. Sweden’s David Ostrom emerged as the chip leader of both Day 1B and all of Day 1 overall, bagging 212,600 chips when the night was through.

The top of the leaderboard is totally and completely dominated by players from Day 1B. Nine of the top ten chip stacks emerged from the second of the two starting flights. The only player from Day 1A in the top ten is, as one would surmise, that day’s chip leader, Jesper Feddersen. His 188,900 chips put him in third place overall behind Ostrom and Casey Kastle (204,500).

The 782 total entries created a €3,753,600 prizepool. A total of 120 players will show a profit for their efforts, with payouts starting at €8,000. The winner will bag €770,000 and the six-figure payouts will go down to sixth place.

Names that may be familiar to our readers who made it to Day 2 include Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Freddy Deeb, Jason Koon, Lex Veldhuis, Gaelle Baumann, Jake Cody, Fabrice Soulier, Steve O’Dwyer, JC Alvarado, and Todd Terry.

Looking at the table draw for Day 2, there not many of the 47 tables that are particularly noteworthy, as most of the big stacks are fairly well scattered throughout the tournament room. There are several tables, however, where most of the stacks are below the 56,000 chip average with those that are not barely reaching above that midline. Table 42 is a bit interesting as it is headed by Day 1A chip leader Jesper Feddersen, but then nobody else has more than 63,000 chips. Feddersen has three times the chips as the next closest competitor at his table.

When Day 2 picks up on Tuesday, 419 players will take their seats, 165 from Day 1A and 254 from Day 1B. That’s more than half the original field, so there is still work to be done to get to the money. There is a slight chance that the money bubble may burst on Day 2, but it is more likely to have to wait until Day 3.
