The first Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) since the former online poker giant’s rebirth got underway this weekend and it’s so far, so good for the poker room trying to rebuild both its reputation and player base.
The kickoff event was the traditional $200 + $16 No-Limit Hold’em tourney (though this one, as well as the last one, is a multi-entry tournament, rather than a standard freezeout) with a $750,000 guaranteed prize pool. That guarantee was eclipsed by more than a third, as 5,482 players registered, creating a $1,096,400 prize pool. Player “doneNdusted84” took the crown, earning a limited edition FTOPS jacket, a gold FTOPS jersey, and a gold FTOPS avatar for the virtual Full Tilt Poker tables.
If the 5,482 registrants for Event #1 of FTOPS XXI sounds like a lot, it’s because it was. Just six other FTOPS opening events have been larger, and of course, they were all before Black Friday and the mess that followed.
A total of 34 more events are on the schedule through December 16th, with three running on Monday. More than $7.5 million in prize pools is guaranteed across all 35 events, including the $1.5 million guaranteed in the FTOPS XXI Main Event.
