If you haven’t been perusing all of the poker-related sites on the internet and reading them very carefully, you might have missed it. We certainly did. But better late than never, right? Buried at the end of a post on its website last Thursday, IveyPoker.com announced that it will be launching its new poker training site later this month.
Plans have been in the works for a while to get Ivey League up and running, describing it at as a site that “…will help you learn to play poker with live play videos and in-depth poker theory presentations.” One of the most recent updates on the progress of the Ivey League training site was posted by Phil Ivey himself on his Twitter account when he shared a picture of Patrik Antonius filming a video for the project.
It has been a long time in coming for Ivey League. Almost a year ago, IveyPoker.com bought poker training site LeggoPoker.com, saying that the “…acquisition of LeggoPoker will serve as the foundation for a new IveyPoker product offering called Ivey League – a subscription-based poker teaching site featuring training videos and content from Team Ivey, a network of the world’s best professional poker players.”
Also mentioned in the press release that touted the LeggoPoker purchased was the IveyPoker Facebook app, which went live in July 2013: “Ivey League is the logical next-step for players after they’ve received initial instruction from the IveyPoker app….”
The IveyPoker app is play-money only and, unlike many social poker games, does allow for multi-tabling. Ivey said the reasoning behind this is that playing lots of hands is very important in learning how to become a better poker player; multi-tabling is the probably the best way to accelerate player’s education. One of the reasons Phil Ivey introduced the Facebook app was to allow people who are just learning the game to play in a safe, risk-free environment before jumping into the real money arena and therefore lower the chances that they will become frustrated when trying the real thing for the first time.
Phil Ivey has recruited 30 poker pros to IveyPoker.com, most of whom will presumably contribute to the lessons provided at Ivey League. These pros include the aforementioned Patrik Antonius, 2012 WSOP Main Event Champion Greg Merson, Cole South, Jennifer Harman, Dan Smith, Andrew “luckychewy” Lichtenberger, Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler, Aaron “aejones” Jones, Griffin “Flush_Entity” Benger, James “Flushy” Dempsey, and Jonathan Jaffe.
