Aggressive talk from party

When I used to play online poker regularly, I lived for poker room promotions. It was great fun not only be playing poker every day, but working toward something other than purely profit from the tables (yes, we’ll go with profit for the sake of argument). When it was the 800-pound gorilla of the industry, partypoker had some solid promos. The one they have going right now is, well, easy. Seriously. It’s the easiest promo in which players can take part. And it has a unique name: $2M Defection Party.

Obviously, considering the name, the idea behind the promotion is for partypoker to try to draw players away from other online poker rooms. But then again, online poker rooms are normally trying to do that, so that’s not unusual. Being so direct about it, however, is.

“Are you fed up of your online poker operator only caring about the rake you generate?” partypoker asks on its blog, “Tired of feeling like you’re just a number on a database somewhere? Sick of never having your feedback heard? Well now is the time to change all that.”

Dead simple tasks

And with this promotion, partypoker definitely does not care about the rake you generate. The rewards, which are very small, require almost zero effort.

There are four different stages to the $2M Defection Party. It’s really three with a fourth that already existed before the promo started, but we’ll get to that. The first just requires a login. That’s it. Every day you login to partypoker from May 7 through June 4, you get a prize. The prizes are minimal, but it’s something for nothing, so I wouldn’t complain. You will receive either some sort of bonus or a ticket for a $500 guaranteed Hyper-Turbo freeroll that runs daily.

The second stage of the $2M Defection Party is called Boosted Cashback. On select days, opting-in to this part via the account screen will give you an extra 20 percent cashback all day. The first day was May 7, so that’s gone. There is another chance on June 4 and some other opportunities on “Mystery Days,” which are…a mystery.

The third part of the promotion is the first thing that you will actually have to do something to complete. Players will receive a challenge every day. Like always, you will have to opt-in to said challenge. Supposedly it is incredibly easy to accomplish and each one includes Kevin Hart, partypoker’s newest ambassador, in some way. If you complete the challenge, you get a ticket to a daily $5,000 guaranteed Hyper-Turbo tournament.

The oddball part of the promo, the fourth one I mentioned earlier, is the leaderboard competition. This doesn’t exactly fit because the cash game, SPINS, and Sit-and-Go leaderboards already existed prior to the $2M Defection Party.

Roby Yong announced last weekend that the cash game leaderboards had been extended to May, but now it looks like they are running through at least June. There are eight leaderboards for Omaha and eight for Hold’em. A total of $250,000 is up for grabs on the cash game leaderboards each week.
