Poker News

With the demise of Full Tilt Poker and UB.com, there has been a bit of a void in the online poker tournament series space. PokerStars rules the roost, of course, with fantastic series such as the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) and the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP). But without Full Tilt’s FTOPS and UB’s UBOC, there are gaps in the calendar that are longing to be filled. Last year, PartyPoker launched its answer, Pokerfest, and it got rave reviews. Pokerfest is back this year for its second annual showing and it is ready to kickoff this weekend.

Pokerfest II will feature 47 tournaments and a $3.5 million total guaranteed prize pool. The festivities start this coming Sunday, April 22nd, with four No-Limit Hold’em events and end on Sunday, May 6th, with the $640 buy-in, $1 million guaranteed prize pool Main Event. Other games include Fixed-Limit Hold’em and Pot-Limit Omaha, with variations such as 6-Max, speed tourneys, deep stacks, and re-buys. Buy-ins range from as little as a few PartyPoints on up to $1,060, though most are in the $11 to $99 range.

There are added jackpots to be won in addition to the good, old tournament prize money, the most lucrative of which is $20,000 plus a $14,000 World Series of Poker (WSOP) prize package for anyone who wins three Pokerfest II events. Here is the complete jackpot list:

•    Win any three Pokerfest II tournaments: $20,000 + $14,000 WSOP 2012 prize package
•    Final table in any 10 Pokerfest II tournaments: $15,000 + iPad
•    Final table in any five Pokerfest II tournaments: $7,500 + iPad
•    Finish in the money in any 20 Pokerfest II tournament: $5,000 + iPad
•    Finish in the money in any 10 Pokerfest II tournaments: $2,500 + iPad

Additionally, PartyPoker will be running two $1 buy-in side events every day during Pokerfest II, each with its own special twist.

This wouldn’t be a PartyPoker promotion without a leaderboard contest, either. There are three leaderboards for Pokerfest II, one for tournaments with PartyPoints buy-ins, one for $6-$33 buy-ins, and one for $55 buy-ins and higher. The Points leaderboard features a $2,500 prize pool with 250 places paid and $250 to the winner, the low buy-in board has a $15,000 prize pool with 500 places paid and $1,250 going to the winner, and the high buy-in leaderboard features a $32,500 prize pool with 500 places paid and $2,500 to the winner.

PartyPoker is currently holding qualifiers for all the Pokerfest II events with buy-ins starting as low as $1.
