Looking to ramp up their 2022 tournament schedule, PokerStars and the European Poker Tour have been rapidly expanding the list of events for the coming year. After seeing a stop in Russia postponed because of Russian president Vladimir Putin’s aggression against Ukraine, the announcement of the EPT Monte Carlo was a necessary step. In addition to the stop in Monaco, several EPT Regional Tour events were also announced for play over the remainder of the calendar year.

Mark Your Calendar for May

The EPT Monte Carlo will cover a week of play in the seaside resort of the rich and famous. The tournament will take place at the Monte Carlo Casino from April 28 to May 7. Three specific EPT branded events will take place starting on May 1 through May 7. These events should draw in the crème of the European poker circuit.

Beginning on May 1, the EPT Super High Roller event will take to the felt. The €100,000 buy-in tournament has not been conducted since 2019, which is the last time that the EPT Monte Carlo was held. The final table for the Super High Roller will be on May 3.

While the Super High Roller is going on, the Main Event of the EPT Monte Carlo will begin. Starting on May 2, the €5000 (€300 juice) buy-in event will certainly be strongly contested by not only the best the European poker world, but also by qualifiers from PokerStars’ online satellites and other amateurs. The final table for the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event will be contested on May 7.

For those who have been knocked out of the Main Event, the EPT will provide a High Roller event. This tournament will take place from May 5-7. The €25,000 buy in might be a bit pricey for some players, but it will provide a final hurrah for those with deeper pockets to take part in.

As with all EPT tournaments, PokerStars will be providing satellites to the festivities. Although there have not been any other stops announced at this date, the EPT is saying that future dates on the 2022 EPT schedule will be announced soon.

Regional Events Back in Play; First Time in Five Years

For the first time in five years, “regional events” that the EPT used to offer will come back into play. Seven events have been announced that will run through the end of 2022. Additionally, there is further potential for other regional events to take place during the empty slots in the 2022 schedule.

Here is a list of the events that will be held as a part of the rebirth of the EPT Regional Tours:

Eureka Prague, March 6-10
ESPT Madrid, March 28-April 3
UKIPT London, April 4-10
FPS Monte Carlo April 28-May 2
Eureka Rozvadov, May 20-29
FPS Divonne, October 4-9
FPS Aix-en-Provence, November 22-27

Even with these plans in place, PokerStars and the EPT know there are potential pitfalls ahead. “We understand that these are uncertain times for everyone,” Severin Rasset, the Managing Director for PokerStars, stated during the announcement. “The health and safety of our players and staff is paramount to our plans…live events have always been a big part of PokerStars…and we’re pleased we can now share details for the (Monte Carlo) event along with the announcement that the regional tours are back.”
