Han Feng has been eliminated from the World Series of Poker Main Event final table in fifth place after a dramatic river card ended his run, earning $2,250,000 for his finish, PokerNews reported.
According to PokerNews, Feng was down to eight big blinds when he moved all-in holding pocket aces. Lauri Saaskilahti called with pocket nines, while Greg Mueller folded pocket jacks. The flop came 10♦ 3♦ 8♦, giving Feng — who held the A♦ — a flush draw to go with his overpair. The J♥ on the turn added an open-ended straight draw for Saaskilahti, but the river fell the Q♠, completing Saaskilahti’s straight and sending Feng to the rail. PokerNews noted that the Q♠ was one of seven outs that would have won Saaskilahti the pot.
The bustout hand came with five players remaining at the final table. PokerNews reported that Feng had been one of six players trying to catch chip leader Lucas Jumalon. Earlier in the session, Jamie Shaevel — described by PokerNews as a Southern California cash game pro — had lost his short stack to Jumalon before Feng’s elimination hand was played.
PokerNews reported that Day 1 of the WSOP Main Event final table produced two eliminations across six hours of play, leaving four players in contention for the championship. According to PokerNews, Feng had approximately $3.5 million in live tournament cashes entering the final table.
