What’s On The Cards?
With poker hitting a slower pace as things go quiet after the WSOP and players take a moment to enjoy the summer, we look at what’s on the tournament cards during August. After all, if the online poker sites Stars and Full Tilt do indeed do a deal, you might find yourself flushed with returned bankrolls (unless promises are broken) and you may be wondering where to get in on some live action.
OK, stop dreaming about getting your money back – at least until the details of the deal, if there is one, are released. Instead, let’s take a look at some of the poker action to be had in August.
The Indiana State Poker Championship
This kicks off on August 2 and will be held at the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, IN. There are seven events held over seven days, with the main event being a No Limit Hold’em tournament with a $550 buy-in on August 7. Players will start with 20,000 chips and blinds increase every 60 minutes. So are you ready for a road trip?
The Tournament of Champions – Running Aces
Held on August 11 at Running Aces in Colombus, MN this is a single event held over two days. The buy-in is $2,500 and there is a $75,000 guaranteed 1st place prize. Each player will receive $30,000 in chips and blinds will go up every hour. If that sounds a little beyond your bankroll they have a freeroll running on Monday, August 6 with a main event seat added. Do you want to head to Minnesota for a little felt action now?
The Borgata $100,000 guaranteed
Kicking off on August 11 at 11:00am at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, NJ this $100,000 guaranteed No Limit Hold’em tournament has a $350 buy-in. Players start with 15,000 in chips and blinds begin at 25/50, increasing every 30 minutes. Bust-outs can re-enter unlimited times within the first six blind levels. Do note that you have to be over 21 to enter and need a My Borgata Card to play.
PokerStars EPT Barcelona
If you feel like a little poker junket, then you can spend from August 14 to August 25 at the Casino de Barcelona in Spain playing in one of the 31 events running there. The main event has a buy-in of €5,000, while there is also a high roller event on August 22 that has a €10,000 buy-in. Even if you bust out you can console yourself with the sights of this beautiful Spanish city.
APT Asian Series – Mauritius
If Spain is not exotic enough for you, you might think of taking an island trip. Held at the gorgeous Casino TiVegas in Grand Bay, Mauritius, this event runs from August 19 to august 26 and has nine different events. The main event carries a €820 buy-in, while the high roller event is a reasonable €2,000. It would certainly make a great poker holiday.
Canadian Open Poker Championship
If hot beaches and white sand is not your thing you might want to seek out cooler climes and visit the Canadian Open Poker Championship. This is held at the Deerfoot Inn & Casino in Calgary from August 23 to September 2. There are ten varied events, including Pot Limit Omaha and Heads Up tournaments. The main event has a buy-in of CAD2,000 and is a two day event.
The above is a small selection of the many live poker tournaments on offer during August. There are also a huge number of online poker rooms hosting large tournaments too. In fact, if you are a poker player, the truth is that there really isn’t a quiet period in poker. There is always a game going on somewhere, so get in the car or jump on a plane and shuffle up and deal.
