Online poker room partypoker announced on Friday that it has changed the structure of Caribbean Poker Party promotion because of player feedback. Most of the promo, which is highlighted by prize packages to the partypoker MILLIONS Caribbean in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, remains the same, with the main changes coming with the number of prizes that will be awarded.

The Caribbean Poker Party promo was originally started on May 24th. For the first month, partypoker kept daily leader boards for its Power Series tournaments, split into Low ($5.50 – $11), Medium ($22 -$55), and High ($109+) buy-ins. At the end of each day, the top ten players on each leader board won prizes.

The winner of the daily High leader board won a $10,000 Caribbean Poker Party prize package, which includes a buy-in for the partypoker MILLIONS Caribbean, travel expenses, and hotel rooms. Two such prize packages were awarded on Sunday.

Starting Monday, June 26th, the CPP leader boards have been shifted from daily to weekly, running on a Monday through Sunday schedule. To compensate for this, prizes will be awarded to the top 50 players on each leader board. On top of that, the winner of each leader board – not just the High leader board – will win a $10,000 Punta Cana prize package. And ON TOP OF THAT, the second place finisher on the Medium leader board every week will also win a $10,000 prize package, as will the second through fourth place finishers on the High leader board.

Overall, this should work out better for players, as more people will win prizes. The ones who will be hurt by the change will be the players who are unable to play consistently all week, but this should benefit more players than it will harm. Low stakes players should be especially pleased by this, as it is not often in the online poker world that $5 tournament players can have a legit shot at $10,000 live tournament packages.

Here are the new prize breakdowns:

This seems very odd to me: “The ones who will be hurt by the change will be the players who are unable to play consistently all week, but this should benefit more players than it will harm.”
