Whether with their significant others or spending the day alone, poker players took the time to celebrate Valentine’s Day on Monday.

Passing out his Valentine’s Day wishes to his lady, Mike Matusow also was apparently looking for a ride to the airport. “Just woke up, need to pack,“ Matusow Tweeted to his followers. “Happy Valentines day to my lovely girlfriend @AnnieLePage. You are so special… Now get your butt over here!”

Top poker tells expert Joe Navarro took the time to send out his wishes by quoting British poet Thomas Hood: “Oh, if it be to choose and call thee mine, love, thou art every day my Valentine!”

Phil Hellmuth, who has been married to his wife, Katherine, for over two decades, kept the spirit of the day going over his Twitter account. “Red Rose and card gave wifey; pool + tile mosaic in background,” Hellmuth Tweeted, showing a Twitpic of a very special gift for his wife.

“Hollywood” Dave Stann got in the Valentine’s Day spirit in a unique way by displaying his gift for his girlfriend while Tweeting, “Flowers? Puh-leeeeze. Got my gf a new side view mirror from a junkyard for Valentine’s Day.”

The holiday of love found some of poker’s ladies reflecting on its significance. Liz Lieu was arguably the most thoughtful, Tweeting two special messages to her Twitter peeps. “Three words… Two hearts… One soul… Happy Valentine’s Day,” she opined over Twitter early on Monday morning. She followed up later in the day with another Tweet: “The world is full of beauty when your heart is full of love. So start and end your day with love and a smile in your heart.”

Other ladies of the game put their hearts on their sleeves in honor of Valentine’s Day. “Have a good time celebrating V-Day,” UB.com pro Maria Ho told her followers, “But don’t use it as an excuse to only show your loved ones how much you care once a year, do it everyday.”

As a mother herself, Michele Lewis advised her followers, “Remember when mom acted like your card was the greatest gift? She wasn’t acting.” Meanwhile, PokerGives.org co-founder Linda Johnson passed out some sage wisdom to her followers: “Be sure to leave the poker table long enough to spend some quality time with your Valentine today… Remember to keep things in perspective!”

On the funnier side of Valentine’s Day Tweets, Full Tilt Poker’s Erik Seidel stepped up to pass along a couple of nuggets of hilarity. “Got a call early this morning from a Speedo rep,” the 2010 Poker Hall of Fame inductee Tweeted. “They are offering me $100K to never wear Speedo in public.” After consultation with his wife, Seidel came back with, “My wife wants a private provision added to the contract as well. Agent thinks I should hold out for more.”

On another funny note, Daniel Negreanu warmed up for Valentine’s Day early on Monday. “Happy Valentine’s Day,” the PokerStars front man Tweeted to his legions of fans. “In honor of this special day, I’m about to watch ‘Zack and Miri Make a Porno.’ That should get me in a romantic mood.”

To wrap up the Valentine’s Day Tweets, World Poker Tour Executive Tour Director Matt Savage Re-Tweeted a special message from his wife, Maryann. “What do you LOVE about poker,” was the question asked of her. “It’s where my husband @savagepoker found me,” responded Maryann, including a Twitpic of their wedding day in Monte Carlo from 2004. All Matt could do in response was Tweet, “My favorite pic!”
