The third European Championship of Online Poker (ECOOP) is currently underway. Kicking off on Saturday is a $1,060 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha Six-Max tournament with a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool and seated among its many tables will be Antanas Guoga, who is better known in the poker world as Tony G. One of the more controversial characters in poker, Tony G will compete against iPoker players during Saturday’s ECOOP event.

The 14 tournament ECOOP culminates on Sunday, December 7th with a $1,060 buy-in Main Event. The event comes with a $1.5 million guarantee attached to it. In the last ECOOP held, Jeanss89 won $315,000 by claiming the title in the Main Event. Coming in second place was maros121, who pocketed $165,000. The top 150 players finished in the money and the top 20 took home more than $10,000. ECOOP II took place in May. On Saturday, it will be online poker hopefuls pitted against Guoga, who will take to the field under the user name “TonyG.”

The tournament series started off with a bang, as 1,420 players took to the field in a $215 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament, which was the very first event of ECOOP III. IamBetterThanU proved that his user name was true, besting the enormous field en route to a $59,640 payday. Coming in second place in Event #1 was DSever, who cashed for $31,240. Also reaching the final table in the tournament, which took place on Monday, were KPOP (third place for $22,720), RITMOLOKO666 (fourth place for $17,040), debora08 (fifth place for $14,200), klonkis (sixth place for $11,360), Dom217 (seventh place for $8,520), alessiops (eighth place for $5,680), and Riggelirigg (ninth place for $3,976).

In a $215 Six-Max Limit Hold’em tournament (Event #2), 533 players took to the field. The tournament broke its $100,000 guarantee and, at the end of the day, PUPAA scored victory as well as a $24,518 payday. Also making waves in the second ECOOP event were ypsigro71, who finished as the runner up for $14,391, and WaaBAM, who placed third for $8,528. A $109 No Limit Hold’em Turbo Tournament was held on Wednesday, attracting 1,056 players to iPoker rooms. In the end, miffy444 was the champion, taking home $46,599. The tournament more than doubled its $100,000 guarantee, as the 1,056 players created a $221,900 prize pool.

Guoga recently took third in the £5,000 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha tournament held during the 2008 World Series of Poker Europe for £94,380. He famously finished second in the World Poker Tour’s Grand Prix de Paris in 2004, uttering the now-famous phrases “I’m going to destroy you” and “I’m going to take everything you have” to Surinder Sunar and others who were a part of the six-handed final table. He pocketed €339,930 for his efforts in that tournament, which was held at the Aviation Club, a small poker room in Paris, France.

Online poker rooms on the iPoker Network include Titan Poker, Chili Poker, Better Poker, CD Poker, and Expekt Poker.
